14 piece leather sewing starter kit
Want to try your hand at sewing leather?
This 14 piece leather sewing starter kit contains all you need to start.
Setting your stitches out is no problem with this kit.
You start with the grooving device – set at the distance away from the edge you want, run this down the edge to make a groove in the leather.
You next use the overstitch tool – either the 2mm or 4mm dependant on what length of stich you want. Run this into the groove you just made and you will have marks made for your Awl.
Load up a pair of needles with the waxed thread- the colour of your choice, you have three: natural, black and coffee. Make the thread four times the length of the stitching line. and pull it across the wax bar before loading the needles.
Using the Awl poke a hole in the leather you want to stitch and pass a needle through the hole, pull so that the thread is equal. Place the thimble on the thumb to push the needle if necessary.
Poke the Awl through the next hole and pass one needle through, the other needle goes through from the other side. Pull tight, but not so tight as to bunch the leather.
Continue this until you reach the end, then go back over two stitches and trim the waxed thread close with the scissors.
Now you can see that you have all you need to begin stitching leather.
